Sen. Barack Obama's campaign will be buying TV ad time in West Virginia, a red state that President Bush won twice.

The Obama campaign believes that Sen. John McCain's inability to articulate a coherent economic view, in the campaign's view, gives the campaign an opening in the conservative rural state, which tends to elect Democrats locally but has gone for Republicans more recently.

Is this a head fake? A move to make McCain spend money in a state he was counting on not having to compete in? A real push? We shall see. Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., tellingly, will visit the Mountaineer State soon.

Tampa police have arrested a man they say severely beat a six-year-old relative for not doing his homework.

Lee Edward Cook, Jr. Was arrested at his workplace at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. It was unclear from a preliminary police report how authorities discovered the abuse. The incident occurred earlier Wednesday.

Tampa police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor said Cook also left a two-year-old in the home unattended.

The incident has been referred to the department of children and families.

I usually take pride in being a relatively rational person. But on certain issues, my Croatian superstitious nature comes right to the surface. For example, Iapos;m a strong believer in not speaking too soon. When I drove the car that I dubbed "Lady Three Hubcaps" I frequently had to make visits to the mechanic. When my WASP mother (who really should know better after 3 decades of living with Croats) would make a remark like "Gee, your car hasnapos;t had to be repaired in a while." Iapos;d interrupt with a comment like "SHUT UP It will HEAR you"

Iapos;ve also discovered Iapos;m quite superstitious about certain dates. One of my friends and I just figured out her most dysfunctional relative, my most dysfunctional ex (and half of his EXTREMELY dysfunctional family) plus my most difficult student....all have November 13th birthdays. June 12th is a date when I tend to lose loved ones. Both my paternal grandparents died on that day, as well as my great-grandfather, and my cat. (Well sad day for me....very happy day for my other cat The other cat alway ate all his food.)

I sometimes wonder if there is some potency to what a person is named. Iapos;ve had names where Iapos;ve had good luck like: Alice - not only a great book, but I tend to get along with people of that name, and had the best kiss of my life playing Alice Sycamore; Stephanie - my favorite babysitter as a kid, one of my best friends in college....and the name of half the people Iapos;m meeting in Oshkosh; Matthew, Ramona...etc. Etc.

I wonder how much the name weapos;re given affects our personality, or if itapos;s just a good descriptor of what was there to begin with. One of my friends just had a baby. Her name is Claire Winter. I was doubly pleased because Claire is one of my good luck names....and Claire Winter, if you look at what the names mean, has a connotation of Winterapos;s Light.

As for my own name, Iapos;ve been finding it more and more appropriate the more silly things I write. The Hilarie-Hilarious connection is obvious, but the last name works pretty well too. One of my Croatian friends remarked to me " apos;Mukaapos; means suffering and apos;vitzapos; means joke...so youapos;re name implies that all of lifeapos;s suffering is a joke" Of course when I told my family that they laughed

Got my close reading paper extended to Monday yaaaaay :D :D I basically had a bunch of ideas but no clue how to make them into paper form, so I talked to Dr. B(aker) for like half and hour and now I know what to write and have until Monday to do it. Now if I could just come up with something for the American lit paper before Friday, life would be lovely. I keep having to remind myself itapos;s just Tuesday, though. Since I keep thinking ahead to the end of the week I get off track.

So, film was cancelled today due to projector issues (read: idiotas in some Appalachian Hiking class left it on and the bulb burnt out). That gave me about four hours between my last class and tutoring, so I used that time to talk to Dr. B and then went to Coreyapos;s room and napped like a mofo. I really need to stop doing that, Iapos;m sure his roommateapos;s tired of coming back to his room after desk sitting and witnessing his roommateapos;s girlfriend sacked out on the bed. Only today, we were both napping, haha.

Anyway, what I am doing right now is waiting for my four oapos;clock tutor student to show up and hogging one of the SSS office computers while doing so. Honestly, I just wanna go hoooome~ but I have a 6 oapos;clock dude today too, so I am stuck here till the evening hours. And I wore black corduroys and a black turtleneck, and it is hot as balls outside. And Iapos;ve decided to attempt to stop smoking or at least cut down to like one a day since itapos;s super bad to do with bc pills, so I canapos;t even go out and enjoy a soothing cancer stick while I am waiting.

On a positive note, there is a motherfucking Oscar Wilde minicourse next semester. I am so there. And one on Dracula and one on Japanese films, which both sound fucking awesome but they probably wonapos;t be 400-level. But Iapos;ll probably take one anyway because wtf, Dracula.

So,

Yesterday I was thinking about multiple things and a thing came up from nowhere: make a blog/journal. I thought it wasnapos;t a bad idea but I wasnapos;t sure about what I wanted my journal to be. I just decided that Iapos;d be about everything. Well, everything that I know of. I wonapos;t write about ants because I know nothing about that except that itapos;s an insect and can lift about 50 times its own weight.

Anyways, all of this to say this journal is not going to be about anything specific. Just generals subjects of my interests.

Let me introduce myself a little bit. I have name yes but itapos;ll stay unknown for you. I am 18 years old, living in Montreal with two of my friends. Iapos;ve been working for a little while now for a video game testing company and I like my job (which is good no?). I have quite a few interests. Playing guitar, singing, music, fashion, hair, sports are part of my list but my list is a lot more filled that this itapos;s just that it would take quite a little bit more time to list all of them. Other than that Iapos;m just an ordinary guy like you and all of the other human beings but unique at the same time.

So this is all for my first post, Iapos;ll bring back new info about anything pretty soon.

Smile. =)
